RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS:
Soil moisture - Saturated between 20 and 40 inches for at least 3 months or more during most years.
Soil temperature - 50 to 54 degrees F.
Mollic epipedon thickness - 10 to 20 inches.
Profile reaction - Moderately alkaline through very strongly alkaline. Some pedons have Ab horizons that are mildly alkaline.
Other features - The soil is violently to slightly effervescent except where Bq horizons are present or drainage has been altered.
Control section - Clay content: 18 to 25 percent.
Texture: Stratified sandy loam through silty clay loam.
A horizon - Value: 4 or 5 dry, 2 or 3 moist.
Chroma: 1 or 2.
Other features: Values of 4 and chromas of 3 may be present in areas with recent overwash.
C horizon - Value: 5 through 7 dry, 2 through 5 moist.
Chroma: 1 through 3.
Other features: Horizons below 36 inches may be gleyed.
COMPETING SERIES: These are the Dithod, Diyou, East Fork and Heidtman series. All are noncalcareous to depths of 20 inches or deeper. Diyou soil are non calcareous through out the control section.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Truckee soils are on flood plains and stream terraces cut through lake terraces. These soils formed in mixed alluvium. Slopes are 0 to 2 percent. Elevations are 3,900 to 4,800 feet. The climate is cool, semiarid with a mean annual precipitation of 7 to 12 inches; mean annual temperature of 50 to 52 degrees F.; and the frost-free season is about 100 to 130 days.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Rose Creek and Voltaire soils. Rose Creek soils have a coarse-loamy control section. Voltaire soils are saturated during part of the year.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Poorly drained (drainage now altered to somewhat poorly drained); very slow or slow runoff; moderately slow permeability. (Seasonal watertable is at 1.5 to 3.5 feet.)
