COMPETING SERIES: This is the Boiler (T), Hudspeth (T), and Mug series. Hudspeth and Mug soils are 20 to 40 inches deep to bedrock. Boiler soils are dry for less than 80 consecutive days during the summer.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Player soils are on breaks. The slope ranges from 30 to 75 percent. The soils formed in colluvium from welded tuff. Elevations are 5,400 to 6,400 feet. The average annual precipitation ranges from 12 to 15 inches. The average annual temperature is 42 to 45 degrees F. The frost free season is 70 to 80 days.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Elhina, Hogmalat, Isknat, and Rutherford soils. Elhina soils are moderately deep to a duripan, and occur on terraces. Hogmalat soils are shallow to bedrock, and occur on summit shoulders. Isknat soils are pachic, and occur on alluvial fans. Rutherford soils are moderately deep to bedrock, and occur on ridgetops and dipslopes.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained, rapid runoff; very slow permeability.
USE AND VEGETATION: Player soils are used for rangeland. Native vegetation is low sagebrush, mountain big sagebrush, Idaho fescue, bluebunch wheatgrass, Sandberg bluegrass, and Columbia needlegrass.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Player soils are of small extent in south central Idaho and north east Nevada. Additional acreage is likely in northern Nevada.
