Chert gravel less than 3 inches in diameter range from 0 to 10 percent by volume. Coarse fragments greater than 3 inches diameter range from 0 to 10 percent by volume. Clay conten ranges from 15 to 27 percent. Reaction ranges from neutral to medium acid.
The BA horizon has hue of 7.5YR or 10YR, value of 3 or 4, and
chroma of 2 to 4 or hue of 5YR, value of 2 or 3, and chroma of 2 to 4. It is silt loam or silty clay loam or the gravelly, very gravelly, cobbly or very cobbly counterparts. Chert gravels less than 3 inches diameter range from 5 to 50 percent by volume. Coarse
fragments larger than 3 inches range from 0 to 20 percent of the volume. The clay content ranges from 20 to 32 percent. Reaction ranges from neutral through medium acid.

40 inches. Claremore soils are shallower than 20 inches. Catoosa soils have a fine-silty control section, and Scullin soils have a fine control section. Clareson soils have a clayey-skeletal control section.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Nowata soils are on slightly convex side
slopes of uplands in the Cherokee Prairies. Slopes range from
2 to 7 percent. These soils formed in material weathered from hard cherty limestone that is jointed of Pennsylvania age. Climate is moist subhumid to humid. The annual Thornthwaite P-E indices range from 64 to 80; annual precipitation ranges from 38 to 45 inches;
the average annual temperature ranges from 57 degrees to 64 degrees F.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the competing Claremore and Catoosa series on similar landscapes.
