COMPETING SERIES: These are the Berent (UT), Hotsprings (NV), Incy (NV), Quincy (WA), Quinton (OR), Rinquin (T)(WA), Toll(NV), Walco (T)(ID), Winchester (WA), and Zorravista (NV) series. Berent soils have loamy fine sand control sections and are noncalcareous to depth of 36 inches or more. Hotsprings soils have a particle-size control section of gravelly loamy sand or gravelly loamy coarse sand with 20 to 35 percent fine pebbles. Incy soils are noncalcareous throughout their profiles. Quincy soils have dominantly dark basaltic mineral grains with moist values of 3 or 4 in the series control sections. Quinton, Rinquin and Walco soils have bedrock at a depth of 20 to 40 inches. Toll soils have loamy sands and are medium acid to neutral in the series control sections. Winchester soils have sand and loamy sand in the series control sections with more than 75 percent medium sand or coarser. Zorravista soils are strongly to weakly effervescent at depth of 0 to 20 inches and are strongly influenced by vitric pyroclastic materials.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Goldrun soils are on sand dunes, beach plains, and sand sheets. These soils formed in eolian and lacustrine sands derived from mixed rock sources with some influence from volcanic ash. Slopes are 0 to 30 percent. Elevations are 3,600 to 5,700 feet. The climate is cool, semiarid with cool moist winters and hot dry summers. The mean annual precipitation is 7 to 10 inches; mean annual temperature is 45 to 50 degrees F.; and the frost-free season is 100 to 120 days.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Benin, McConnel, Orovada, Preble, Rad, Rebel, and Valmy soils. Benin soils have a fine particle-size control section. McConnel soils have a cambic horizon and a sandy-skeletal particle-size control section. Orovada soils have cambic horizons and coarse-loamy particle-size control section. Preble, Rebel and Valmy soils have coarse-loamy particle-size control sections. Rad soils have a coarse-silty particle-size control section.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Somewhat excessively drained; very slow and slow runoff; rapid permeability.
USE AND VEGETATION: Rangeland, wildlife habitat. The present vegetation is mainly Wyoming big sagebrush, rabbitbrush, hairy horsebrush, spiny hopsage, fourwing saltbush, needleandthread, Indian ricegrass, cheatgrass and scurfpea.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: North-central Nevada. These soils are not extensive. MLRA 24, 27.
MLRA OFFICE RESPONSIBLE: Reno, Nevada
SERIES ESTABLISHED: Humboldt County, Nevada (BLM Sonoma Planning Unit) 1974.
