Ap--0 to 11 inches, dark brown (10YR 4/3) loamy sand; moderate fine granular structure; very friable; many fine roots; many very fine and few fine irregular pores; moderately acid; abrupt smooth boundary. (0 to 12 inches thick)
Bt1--11 to 29 inches, yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) loamy sand; weak medium subangular blocky structure; very friable; common fine roots; many very fine irregular pores; common clay bridging between sand grains; moderately acid; clear wavy boundary.
Bt2--29 to 40 inches, strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) loamy sand; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; very friable; nonsticky, slightly plastic; common fine roots; many very fine, and few fine irregular random tubular pores; many prominent clay films on faces of peds and clay bridging between sand grains; strongly acid; clear irregular boundary. (Combined thickness of the Bt horizon is 20 to 45 inches.)
BC--40 to 51 inches, strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) sand; massive; very friable; few very fine roots; many very fine irregular pores; few clay bridging between sand grains; very strongly acid; clear irregular boundary. (0 to 12 inches thick)
C1--51 to 58 inches, brownish yellow (10YR 6/6) sand; single grain; loose; few very fine roots; very strongly acid; clear wavy boundary.
C2--58 to 65 inches, brownish yellow (10YR 6/6) sand; single grain; loose; few thin strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) lamellae; very strongly acid.

RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS:
Solum Thickness: 30 to 60 inches
Depth to Bedrock: Greater than 60 inches
Depth to Seasonal High Water Table: Greater than 72 inches
Rock Fragments: 0 to 20 percent in the A and B horizons and 0 to 30 percent in the C horizon, mostly quartz pebbles
Soil Reaction: Extremely acid to strongly acid, throughout the profile, unless limed
Other Features: Stones range from 0 to 5 percent, by volume in the A horizon
RANGE OF INDIVIDUAL HORIZONS:
Ap horizon:
Color--hue of 7.5YR or 2.5Y, value of 3 to 5, chroma of 2 through 4
Texture (fine-earth fraction)--loamy sand or sand
A horizon (if it occurs, is generally less than 4 inches thick):
Color--hue of 7.5YR to 2.5Y, value of 2 to 4, chroma of 1 or 2
Texture (fine-earth fraction)--loamy sand or sand
E horizons (if it occurs):
Color--hue of 7.5YR to 2.5Y, value of 5 or 6, chroma of 1 to 6
Texture (fine-earth fraction)--loamy sand or sand
Bt horizon:
Color--hue of 5YR to 2.5Y, value of 4 to 6, chroma of 4 to 8
Texture (fine-earth fraction)--loamy sand or sand
BC horizon:
Color--hue of 5YR to 2.5Y, value of 4 to 8, chroma of 4 to 8
Texture (fine-earth fraction)--loamy sand or sand
C horizon:
Color--hue of 7.5YR to 2.5Y, value of 4 to 8, and chroma of 3 to 8
Texture (fine-earth fraction)--sand or loamy sand. Below a depth of 65 inches the texture is variable and some pedons have thin strata of finer-textured material.
COMPETING SERIES:
Cedartown soils--have a seasonal high water table at 42 to 72 inches, on slightly lower-lying landforms
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING:
Landscape: Coastal Plain
Landform: Marine terrace, uplands, or end moraines
Elevation: 10 to 120 feet
Parent Material: Sandy marine sediments and glacial outwash on glacial terminal moraine
Mean Annual Air Temperature: 52 to 58 degrees F.
Mean Annual Precipitation: 42 to 48 inches
Frost Free Period: 190 to 210 days
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS:
Downer soils--well drained and have a coarse-loamy particle-size control section, on similar landforms
Evesboro soils--excessively drained soils that do not have an argillic horizon, on similar landforms
Berryland soils--very poorly drained soils with a spodic horizon, on lower-lying landforms
Klej soils--somewhat poorly drained soils, on lower-lying positions
Sassafras soils--well drained soils with a fine-loamy particle-size control section, on higher lying landforms
Woodstown soils--moderately well drained soils with a fine-loamy particle-size control section, on higher lying positions
USE: Commonly cultivated in corn, soybeans, and truck crops. The soil is frequently irrigated.
VEGETATION: In the Coastal Plain, wooded areas are dominantly black oak, white oak, shortleaf pine, Virginia pine, and loblolly pine. In glacial terminal moraine areas, the native vegetation is eastern white pine, black oak and northern red oak.
DISTRIBUTION: Coastal Plain areas of Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and glacial terminal moraine areas of Massachusetts.
